Static Barbell Hold

A static exercise to develop shoulder strength.


Stand straight, feet apart.

Grasp a barbell with an overhand grip that is shoulder width apart.

Inhale and lift the bar to eye level.

Try to maintain the bar at the top for as long as you can.

As you exhale, slowly lower the bar to the starting position.

Typical mistakes and tips

Every time, try to increase the duration you can hold the bar at the top.

By lifting the bar higher than your shoulders, you increase the load on the rear deltoid.

Lift and lower the bar slowly and in a controlled manner.
